NETA Dispensary Celebrates Brookline Bank Building’s 100th Anniversary

BROOKLINE, MA — On Wednesday, NETA dispensary celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Brookline bank building, the location of its Brookline store at 160 Washington Street.

The Beaux-Arts style edifice, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, officially
marked its 100th year on October 6. Wednesday’s celebration was a gathering of NETA leadership and staff along with representatives from the Brookline Chamber of Commerce, including Executive Director Debbie Miller, to honor its history and legacy in town.

The building was designed by the Swiss American architect Franz Joseph Untersee, best known
for his ornate Roman Catholic churches, and constructed by James Driscoll Sons in 1922. NETA has preserved many of the iconic features: a large dome with teal accent paint around the skylights, arched windows with mahogany frames, chandeliers, and a balcony overlooking the polished stone floor.

NETA made history in Brookline on March 23, 2019 when it became the first dispensary in the
Boston area to legally sell cannabis for adult use. NETA had been open since November 2016 as
a medical-use only dispensary.

“We are so proud to call this gorgeous building home and have done our best to honor its original
designs while converting it into a state-of-the-art dispensary,” NETA President Alli Henriquez said. "We want to thank the Town of Brookline and the community for welcoming us and for their attendance at today’s celebration.”
