Photos That Epitomize 2020 For Brookline Residents

We're asking Brookline residents to share photos they snapped this year that tell the story of 2020, or epitomize the year.

BROOKLINE, MA — This year, the beginning of a new decade, has challenged us in ways we did not see coming. It has also pushed us to appreciate what we have and what others — especially frontline workers — do day in and day out.

We are asking Brookline residents to send in a photo that epitomizes 2020 for them. See how residents responded:


Carol Kort, like many of us, misses the days when international travel was safe. This photo reflects the masked lifestyle we've all come to know.

Nancy Graziano is a nurse who works at MGH and takes public transportation from Brookline to get to work. In July, she snapped this on the Red Line of the demarcation that secludes the driver even beyond the metal doors. She said it illuminated the intensity of fear people felt, and still do.

This picture represents the darkness of 2020 but the blue sky shows hope that better times are ahead. Storm Cloud on Strong Island was taken last summer on Strong Island in Chatham.

Carolynn Levy was on the Island and saw what looked like a storm approaching. As it turned out, it stormed for about 5 minutes and then the sun came out. Inspired, she snapped this shot with her iPhone 8.
