Playground Fox, Shoplifters, Fridge Fire: Brookline Police Logs

Brookline Police respond to dozens of 911 calls each day. Here are examples of a few that police responded to during the weekend of Feb. 22.

BROOKLINE, MA — Police respond to dozens of emergency calls each day. During the weekend of Feb. 22 to Monday, Feb. 25 police arrested three shoplifters, responded to reports of people smoking marijuana and a number of tree branches and downed wires. The following reports are taken from the public police log and the Brookline Police blog. It's important to note that just because someone reports an incident to police doesn't mean that's the way it happened.

Friday, Feb. 22

Nabbed: Brookline Detectives summoned a man to court in connection with the armed robbery at the Mobil Gas Station on Boylston Street in Brookline in January.. Brookline Detectives, working with the Boston Police, were able to determine that a man, already in Boston Police custody for an armed robbery in Boston, was responsible for the January armed robbery in Brookline. You ok? Someone called police at 3:14 a.m. to report a man slumped in a car near the corner of Beacon and Dean Road. It turned out he'd fallen asleep and was cleared by Fallon EMTs.

Shh: Someone called police to report a noisy neighbor on St. Paul Street just after midnight. When officials got there they didn't hear anything. They knocked on the door and no one answered.

Suspicious?: A High Street resident called to report a man she described as Hispanic was trying to get into her building. She hung out while police came to check it out and talk to the man. It turned out two people were visiting a friend in the building.

Site seeing?: An Uber driver called police around 1 p.m. to report he thought someone was taking pictures of his car near the corner of Harvard and Kent streets.

Saturday, Feb. 23

Shoplifter: Someone at a business on Commonwealth Avenue reported two men came in and took a number of items and ran off toward Amory Street. While responding to the call, officers saw a man matching the description of the one of the suspects carrying a red shopping basket containing numerous stolen items. Police were able to stop and arrest the man without incident. He will be summoned to court for shoplifting. The other suspect has not been located.

Another one: A Harvard Street business employee called to report a separate shoplflifting incident that involved two men who ran, this time toward Beacon Street. The reporting party was able to point out the men, who were crossing the street. Officers caught up to the suspects, interviewed them and placed them both under arrest. After investigating is appears that the two are responsible for a number of shoplifting incidents in the area. The two will be summoned to court and charged with multiple counts of shoplifting.

Hazard: A driver called police to report there was debris from a damaged light pole in the roadway across all four lanes of Lee Street right by the rotary at Warren Street.

Sunday, Feb. 24

Dispute: The driver of a tow truck called police to report a dispute about payment with a customer on Griggs Terrace road.

Pot issues: Someone reported people smoking marijuana on the Davis Path footbridge that goes over the MBTA tracks. They were gone when police got there. Later someone else reported young people smoking in the stairwell on Kent Street.

Brookline Idle: A Jenness Road resident called to report there was a small SUV idling on the street for nearly an hour.

Monday, Feb. 25

What does the fox say?: Someone reported they saw a fox on the Kindergarten playground oat the Lincoln Music School on Kennard Road.

Help: Someone called at 2:34 p.m. to report she hadn't been able to catch her Poodle for the last four hours at Larz Anderson.

Assault: A Davis Avenue resident called police to report his roommate punched him twice in the jaw after an argument got physical. Police arrested Matt Williams.

Fire in the fridge: Someone reported there was a small fire in the refrigerator at 191 Harvard Street.

Windy: There were 15 reports of trees or big branches falling, including on Vernon, Avon, Heath, Harvard, Monmouth and Harvard streets. About a dozen reports came in about wires coming down, including on Hamilton Road.
