BROOKLINE, MA — Last Thursday, one year after she first entered the gubernatorial race, Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz announced that she is shifting the focus of her campaign toward supporting a slate of 5 down-ballot “Courage Democrats,” including Brookline’s Raul Fernandez.

“Raul Fernandez is the exact kind of transformative leader our Commonwealth needs in this political moment,” Chang-Díaz said in a statement. "As our rights are under attack and the climate crisis barrels down on us, we need someone who is willing to champion bold policies. Raul has a clear track record of fighting for justice and delivering for working families even when it’s hard. Beacon Hill needs his voice now more than ever.”

Chang-Díaz will join Fernandez for a canvass launch on Saturday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at Griggs Park. Registration information can be found here.

“Sonia has shown, time and time again, that transformative change is possible so long as our leaders have the courage to stand up and fight for it,” Fernandez said in a statement. I’m saddened that she won’t be our Governor and proud of her historic candidacy. It’s not just individuals who make change — it’s coalitions of people with common cause, moral clarity, and an unrelenting commitment to progress. I’m deeply honored to be part of that coalition and part of the movement Sonia’s building.”

The former Vice-Chair of Brookline’s Select Board, Fernandez launched his campaign for State Representative against incumbent Rep. Tommy Vitolo in December.
