Trans Pride Flag Burned On Lawn Of Brookline Church

The incident has been reported to the Brookline Police Department.

BROOKLINE, MA — The trans pride flag at United Parish on Harvard Street in Brookline was found burned on the church’s lawn on August 25, reported WHDH.

The incident has been reported to the Brookline Police Department, according to church officials, but no suspects have been identified.

“The hate and violence shown on our lawn has no place in the kind of world that Jesus imagined and God created,” United Parish said in a statement. "No act of vandalism will deter us from expressing Christ’s love as fully as possible in order to overcome this kind of hatred.”

The senior pastor of the church, Kent French, told WHDH that someone broke the flagpole once before, but he didn’t think anything of it at the time.

French, who is the church’s fourth openly queer pastor, also said he would be willing to have a conversation with the person who burned the flag.

“There are other channels for this kind of anger or hate,” French told the news site. “Disrespect is not one of them. We would rather be in dialogue with you, and talk to you about why we believe the way we do.”
