Who Are Brookline's Wealthiest?

BROOKLINE, MA — Four of the wealthiest people in the US live in Brookline, including the third-richest man in the state, according to the latest Forbes ranking of the world's billionaires.

Brookline's wealthiest are worth $11.4 and all four are men.

It may come as no surprise that New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft topped the local list, with a net worth of $6.5 billion. Clocking in as the second-wealthiest man in town was Alan Trefler, who founded Pegasystems Inc. in 1983, when he was 27 years old, followed by investor Seth Klarman, who runs Boston-based firm Baupost, and then Reebok founder Paul Fireman, who, incidentally, has had his $90 million, 14-acre Brookline Estate on the market for several years.

All told, there were 18 Massachusetts billionaires ranked by Forbes. They are worth a total of $64 billion - less than half of what the world's richest man, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, is worth.

Brookline's wealthiest:

• # 244 in the country: Robert Kraft, 77, Brookline: $6.5 billion, New England Patriots
• #1008: Alan Trefler, 62, Brookline: $2.3 billion, software
• #1511: Seth Klarman, 61, Chestnut Hill: $1.5 billion, investments
• #1941: Paul Fireman, 75, Brookline: $1.1 billion, Reebok
