Alewife Garage Concrete Falls On Car, Down 500 Spots Today
Parking at Alewife will be tougher to get than usual.

CAMBIRDGE, MA — The Alewife T Station parking garage will be down some parking spots Thursday after a piece of concrete fell onto a customer's car Wednesday afternoon. Transit officials said there were no injuries, but the MBTA will be closing off the second floor to complete repairs.

The delaminated concrete struck a car on the second floor. The path of travel to the other floors will remain open, but Alewife will be down from 2,500 to 2,000 parking spots.

The MBTA will also be assessing the rest of the floors and performing spot repairs as necessary "out of an abundance of caution."
The MBTA is currently developing on a long-term plan for the garage and this week will award a $5.7 million contract for the initial work.
