CAMBRIDGE, MA — The city has issued a public health warning urging locals to stay away from the lower Charles River between now and Dec. 14.

Heavy rainfall throughout the region this week reportedly caused combined sewer overflows in nearby bodies of water, in which stormwater mixes with sewages and empties out into the water through outfall pipes. The Public Heath Department urges people to keep their pets away from the water as well.
