CAMBRIDGE, MA — A person who was trapped on the third floor of a burning building in Cambridge was rescued by firefighters early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews arrived at the three-family house on River Street around 12:30 a.m. and found what they called heavy smoke and intense flames on the second floor. Since the house was set back off the street, firefighters say they had trouble reaching the home and had to use a 35' ladder in a rear alley.

"It's a River Street address but as you can see, the building is tucked about 60, 70 feet behind the main house is on River Street," Cambridge Fire Chief Tom Cahill said. "They made an aggressive attack on the second floor."
