New moms at Mount Auburn Hospital celebrate with their beautiful babies in the Special Care Nursery
When your baby needs special attention, trust the skilled physicians and nurses at the Level IIB (Special Care) nursery at Mount Auburn Hospital. Neonatologists — pediatricians with advanced training in caring for premature newborns requiring more specialized care — and skilled nurses staff the nursery 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
A Level II nursery, also known as a Special Care Nursery, provides advanced care for newborns who are moderately ill or have physiologic immaturity, but whose conditions are not expected to require long-term intensive care. These nurseries typically handle babies born at 32 weeks gestation or later, or weighing 1500 grams or more, who may need assistance with breathing, feeding, or temperature regulation. They are staffed by experienced health care professionals, including neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners.
