Officers say 51-year-old Victor Rivas of South Boston was found near the scene, arrested, and will be arraigned in Cambridge District Court, while investigators emphasize the incident appears isolated and poses no broader threat to the public.

Senate tries to boost inclusionary zoning (cambridgeday.com) — Cambridge’s inclusionary zoning policy is under legal attack from a local developer and conservative legal group, even as state lawmakers consider making such policies easier to adopt. The lawsuit challenges requirements that helped create more than 1,600 affordable units in Cambridge, while Beacon Hill debates broader “YIMBY” housing reforms that could reshape how the city and its neighbors plan future development.
   

3. Second candidate seeks Jehlen's seat (cambridgeday.com) — Voters in parts of Cambridge will see a competitive race for retiring state Sen. 5. A white dwarf's cosmic feeding frenzy revealed by NASA (sciencedaily.com) — Cambridge-based MIT researchers are leading a NASA study that used a specialized X-ray telescope to probe a distant white dwarf star system in unprecedented detail. Their work on EX Hydrae, 200 light-years away, reveals how superheated gas spirals onto the star and emits powerful X-rays, helping scientists better understand extreme binary systems across the universe.
