Arrest Made In Christmas Day Cambridge Shooting
One of the people shot in the incident is also believed to have been the shooter.
CAMBRIDGE, MA — The Cambridge Police Department announced it has made an arrest in connection to a shooting that took place at a residence on Howard Street during the early morning hours of Christmas.
Resident Nelson Portillo, 34, has been officially charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license. According to police, Portillo fired a gun inside of the home during a gathering, and struck himself and one other person. He was arraigned at Cambridge District Court on Friday and will be held pending a dangerousness hearing.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 25 to discover Portillo and the other person suffering from gunshot wounds. Both Portillo and the victim have reportedly since been treated and recovered from their injuries.

The State Police and Middlesex District Attorney’s Office have also been handling this case in conjunction with Cambridge.
Nearby neighbors were shocked and saddened to hear about the situation, and said these types of occurrences are not common in their neighborhood, according to a report from WCVB NewsCenter 5.
