• Circle Furniture Stores Close Suddenly (newsweek.com) — Cambridge residents are feeling the impact as Circle Furniture, founded here in the 1950s, abruptly shuts all its stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, including the Cambridge location. Around 65 employees lost jobs just before Christmas, customers face uncertainty about pending orders, and former owners and staff describe financial struggles and rapid expansion that appear to have strained the longtime regional retailer.
   

• Turning mutant proteins into drugs that attack cancer cells' weak spots (earth.com) — Cambridge-based researchers, working with colleagues in Boston, have developed an experimental two-part cancer drug that exploits a buildup of mutant proteins in tumor cells to shut down a key cell-division enzyme. Their lab studies suggest the approach could selectively kill cancer cells carrying a specific mutation while sparing most healthy cells, though it remains early-stage and years away from clinical use.
