Woman Hit By Truck In Harvard Square Dies
The woman in her 60s was crossing the road, but not in the crosswalk, according to police.
CAMBRIDGE, MA — Harvard Square is back open after it was closed to traffic for more than seven hours following a fatal crash near the Out of Town News shop. Police said a truck driver hit a woman in her 60s when she was trying to cross the street in the busy intersection just before 7 a.m. She was taken to a hospital, but died shortly after.
The district attorney said the preliminary investigation indicated she was not in a crosswalk.
"The truck involved in the crash was a Waltham Lumber boom truck that was delivering sheet rock," said Cambridge police spokesperson Jeremy Warnick. "The driver is cooperating as the crash investigation is ongoing."
