Canton High School Students Exhibit Artwork In Juried Exposition
Artwork by senior Morgan Quinn and junior Olivia Schnock are currently being displayed in the Emerging Young Artists 2022 Juried Exhibition

CANTON, MA - Canton Public Schools Interim Superintendent Derek Folan, Canton High School Principal Jeff Sperling and Visual Arts Coordinator Patricia Palmer are pleased to announce that artwork by senior Morgan Quinn and junior Olivia Schnock are currently being exhibited in the Emerging Young Artists (EYA) 2022 Juried Exhibition.
The EYA is hosted annually by the College of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The program received submissions from 656 students this year, from which 178 works were selected to be in the exhibition. The work featured will represent students from dozens of schools around New England.
Quinn's piece is a watercolor study titled "Rockmount in Malbay." Her work centers on personal connections to places with a focus on architecture.

The painting was done as a watercolor study to practice shading and is based on a picture she took when visiting Ireland in 2019. According to Quinn, the picture has special meaning because it is of the Rockmount school that her great-grandmother attended as a child.
Schnock's piece is titled "Hidden Emotions." The piece explores the concept of reality versus perception. Schnock used it as an opportunity for digital media exploration, thinking about how her brush choices and mark-making choices would impact the style of the piece.

According to Schnock, "Hidden Emotions” is about the front that many people put up to block or hide how they are truly feeling. She wanted to create a piece that, despite the somewhat pessimistic meaning to it, a lot of people could relate to and feel something when looking at the piece. Schnock was inspired because she herself feels the need to hide her emotions a lot, whether for other people or if she just doesn't want to face them herself.
"Congratulations to Morgan and Olivia on this incredible achievement and recognition of their artistry," Sperling said. "Both students have created a piece that is meaningful to them and demonstrates their talent in storytelling through art. We are thrilled to see their pieces exhibited in this regional event."
All EYA student artist exhibitors received a Certificate of Recognition for their selections.
