Massachusetts' 50 Richest People: No. 1 Is Worth $34 Billion

BOSTON, MA — You know you're rich when you have double the net worth as the second-richest person in your state. That's the case for Sheldon Adelson, he of the $34.2 billion fortune. The casino magnate was No. 1 in a list of Massachusetts' 50 richest residents released this week by AffluenceIQ.

A staggering 34 individuals on the list are billionaires, including such familiar names as Fidelity CEO Abigail Johnson ($15.6 billion), New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft ($5.2 billion) and Boston Red Sox/Boston Globe owner John Henry ($2.5 billion).

Other notable names in the top 50 include car mogul Herb Chambers ($1.7 billion), Teresa Heinz ($1.2 billion), media executive Shari Redstone ($1.2 billion), Samuel Adams founder James Koch ($840 million), former General Electric CEO Jack Welch ($720 million) and Market Basket owner Arthur T. Demoulas ($675 million).

Of the 50, six are women, including Abigail Johnson, Elixabeth Johnson, Joyce Linde ($1.5 billion,) Teresa Heinz ($1.2 billion,) Redstone, and Margot Connell ($700 million.)

AffluenceIQ said its net-worth figures are estimates that it estimates each individual "is minimally worth."

"This is especially true of individuals who do not work at publicly traded companies, and there is often no public information on their salaries and stock holdings," the company said in a statement.
