Markey Wins Concord, State and a US Senate Seat
Forty-two percent of registered voters cast ballots in the June 25 special election. See how they voted.

Concord, like Massachusetts as a whole, voted to elect Democrat Ed Markey as the commonwealth's next US Senator in the June 25 special election.
The Malden congressman, who has served US House for more than 30 years, collected more than 3,600 of the 5,300 ballots cast here in town. Markey's total was nearly triple that of his Republican opponent, Gabriel Gomez, who received 2,305 votes.
Take a look at the chart below, compiled using preliminary results from the Concord Town Clerk's Office, to see what kind of support the candidates received across the town's five precincts.

The special election was to determine who would claim the US Senate seat John Kerry left upon his appointment as Secretary of State. Mo Cowan, the former chief of staff for Gov. Deval Patrick, was named interim senator in January.
Leading up to the vote, scuttlebutt across the state was that a low turnout was expected as the special election was competing with sports, summer and Whitey Bulger for attention.
