2015 Golden Stick Wiffle League Fast Pitch National Championship in Danvers

The humble beginning in 2002 of the Golden Stick Wiffle League was in Danvers.

“That year, out front of the home of Danvers’ John Archer, North Street became the center of the universe, at least for the freaks chasing this plastic ball like life depends on it,” according to the league’s website.

“How fitting, according to league officials, that Danvers will again play home to a major moment in the history of America’s favorite backyard game, as the 2015 Golden Stick Wiffle League Fast Pitch National Championship rolls into Plains Park and Danvers’ sacred Twi-Field.”

Danvers Babe Ruth Baseball will host the Golden Stick Wiffle National Championship at an all-day event on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Twi-Field, Plains Park, Danvers.

Danvers Babe Ruth is asking for a donations for the food pantry as an entry fee. The event is free and open to the public.

The event will feature players and teams from all over the country, including Arizona, California, Colorado, New York and Georgia.

There is a $5,000 prize for first place. Tournament play will start at 9 a.m. followed by single elimination games at 5 p.m. The championship game will be held at 9 Saturday night.

Some of these players have been clocked throwing a wiffle ball over 90 miles per hour, according to league officials.

Tournament Schedule:

9 a.m. Opening Ceremonies

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Qualifying Rounds

6 p.m. Super 8

7:30 p.m: Final Four

8:30 p.m: National Championship Game
