40 New State Troopers Report for Duty in Danvers [VIDEO]

40 recent graduates of the Massachusetts Police Academy reported to duty at in Danvers on Tuesday, March 13.

Of the 208 troopers who graduated from the Academy last week, 40 were assigned to Troop A, comprised of barracks in Danvers, Andover, Concord, Newbury, Medford, and Revere.

Major Edward Amodeo noted that many of the graduates assigned to Troop A hail from North Shore communities, including Lynnfield, Peabody, Salem, and Swampscott.

Now that the troopers have graduated, Amodeo said they will undergo a three-month training period, riding with a senior trooper and "learning what it is to be a trooper from the perspective of actually going out and having on the job training."

The new troopers are members of the 80^th Recruit Training Troop, who graduated Friday at the DCU Center in Worcester after, what police described as, a rigorous 21-week training academy. 

"These graduates hold the honor of being the largest, most highly trained class the academy has ever produced, and the first in over five years,” said Governor Patrick at the graduation on Friday. "I am pleased that we were able to secure the resources to make this happen for the State Police class, which includes some of the bravest, strongest and smartest citizens from every corner of the Commonwealth."

The 208 troopers who graduated are the first class of new troopers since 2006, and according to police, "will provide a critical boost to departmental staffing levels. Prior to the graduation of the class, State Police sworn personnel levels were down approximately 500 troopers due to normal attrition."
