Arctic Blast Alert: Danvers To Open 2 Warming Centers Saturday

The town will open warming centers at the Senior Center and the public library with wind chills expected to be near -30 degrees.

DANVERS, MA — Danvers residents who are struggling during the coldest arctic blast in at least seven years are invited to come to one of the town's two warming stations on Saturday.

The town will open the Senior Center to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Danvers Public Library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The town said, if needed, it will also open an emergency shelter.

Residents in need of emergency shelter are encouraged to contact the Danvers Police Department at 978-774-1213.

"We are asking all to take precautionary measures to stay safe and warm," Danvers officials said.

According to the National Weather Service, the worst of the cold and wind chills are expected Saturday morning with temperatures below zero and wind chills approaching -30 with gusts to 40 miles per hour.

The wind is expected to ease Saturday afternoon with temperatures forecast to slowly rise into the teens.

Temperatures will stay in the teens overnight and then by Sunday will return to above-normal with highs in the mid-40s on the North Shore.
