Danvers Coronavirus Update: Town Delays Election, Town Meeting

Danvers selectmen unanimously agreed to push back the biggest dates on the local political calendar as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

DANVERS, MA — Selectmen voted to push the town's annual election to June 2 from May 5 and town meeting to June 15 from May 18 under emergency authority granted by the state last week.

Selectmen's unanimous vote came during an online meeting Monday and is one of several postponements expected across Massachusetts this week. Baker's order gave local governments the authority to postpone spring elections and town meetings to dates on or before June 30.

As of Monday, the Massachusetts Municipal Association said nearly 20 towns had already acted on Baker's order.
