Danvers Coronavirus Update: Town Limits Stores To 50 Shoppers

Customers will wait in six-foot intervals in lines outside supermarkets and other stores in Danvers once capacity is reached.

DANVERS, MA — Danvers supermarkets and big box stores will be limited to no more than 50 customers in their buildings at any one time after the city enacted an emergency order last week.

Officials were able to enact the order under the state of emergency declaration Danvers enacted last month to help slow the spread of the new coronavirus. Under the order, which went into effect April 2, customers will wait six feet away from one another in lines outside the stores when there are already 50 customers inside.

In Danvers, affected stores include Market Basket, Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, Stop and Shop, Costco, and BJs. Many national retailers had already enacted their own customer caps to help minimize exposure for both customers and employees.
