Danvers Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect From Malden

Robert Cornejo, 33, of Malden, was arrested at his workplace in Stoneham after lab results linked him to a May 2 bank robbery in Danvers.

DANVERS, MA —Danvers police arrested a Malden man after lab results linked him to a May 2 robbery at the Peoples United Bank branch on Federal Street. Robert Cornejo, 33, of Malden, was arrested at his workplace in Stoneham. He was arraigned in Salem District Court Tuesday on charges of unarmed robbery and being a common and notorious thief.

Cornejo's criminal record includes other bank robberies. In 2013, he was charged in connection with a robbery at the East Cambridge Savings Bank on Salem Street in Medford. In 2008 he was arrested for robbing a Sovereign Bank branch in North Andover while he was out on bail after being charged in a Wakefield bank robbery.

Police from Wakefield and Peabody, as well as the FBI Robbery Task Force, assisted in the investigation. Police issued an arrest warrant after lab results were released by the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab.

According to police, Cornejo was wearing a blue beanie, black wig and gray hooded sweatshirt when he demanded money without showing a weapon to bank tellers at the bank around 5 p.m. on May 1. He fled in an older model car. Police recovered the wig, which he discarded as he fled.
