Danvers Repairing 'Significant' Water Main Leak

A leak discovered by a kayaker over Thanksgiving weekend resulted in a loss of 75 to 150 gallons of water per minute.

DANVERS, MA — Officials have begun repairs on what is described as a "significant leak" on one of the two water mains that brings water to Danvers from the Middleton Reservoir. The leak was discovered by a kayaker over Thanksgiving weekend. Officials planned to start work on the repairs this week, ahead of the thaw-and-freeze cycles that could worsen the damage.

According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, the leak resulted in a loss of 75 to 150 gallons of water per minute. Danvers officials say the repair work could be completed within 20 days, weather and other factors permitting. The town will use the Buxton Road groundwater well to maintain service while the repairs are being made.
