Danvers Selectmen Back Bid To Rename Columbus Day
Danvers is the latest Massachusetts community to voice support for calling the second Monday in October Indigenous People's Day.

DANVERS, MA — Danvers selectmen unanimously endorsed a state bill that would the name of the holiday celebrated on the second Monday in October to Indigenous People's Day from Columbus Day. The resolution had been proposed by the Danvers Human Rights and Inclusion Committee. Elected officials in other Massachusetts communities, including Marblehead, North Andover and Salem, have taken similar stands in recent years.
