Danvers Skate Park To Get Surveillance Cameras

The Skate Park on 59 Conant St. is a popular hangout for youths in Danvers.

As part of a $93,500 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, video surveillance cameras will be installed at the town's skate park this June.

The funds, which the town applied for last year, will also be used to improve the middle and high schools security cameras, as well as dead zones in the schools that hinder police and fire radio communication inside the school buildings, the Boston Globe reported.

In June 2011, said there was concern of a recent spike in dispatches to the Skate Park on .

At the time, Police Sergeant Robert Bettencourt attributed the spike during June to the park's heavier use during warmer weather. He noted the police had been making a stronger presence at the scene and "we're still concerned, that's why we have patrols in that area just to make sure."

As of Jan. 1, 2011, police have responded to the Skate Park 33 times, the Globe said.
