DANVERS, MA – Like small airports and carnival grounds, ski areas across the country have been lost to time and development. The New England Lost Ski Areas Project documents memories of those ski slopes, where many locals cut their teeth.
Using contributed memories of people's favorite lost ski areas, NELSAP paints a picture of ski history in New England.
Locust Lawn in Danvers was taken over by I-95 and eventually moved to Topsfield, possibly in the early 1970s. NELSAP didn't always list Locust Lawn, but according to a personal website, the project inspired someone else to share memories about the ski area.

According to memories shared with NELSAP, the area used all rope tows, and is where many learned to ski. The area is lost in a way that other ski areas are not (many are now walkable land). In the early 1970s, much of the slopes were carved out for I-95, and would be nearly unrecognizable today.
