Danvers Students Raise Funds For Colleen Ritzer Memoral 'Be Kind Legacy' Mural
The students are attempting to raise $30,000 for the dedicated mural to be displayed in the Colleen E. Ritzer Library at the high school.

DANVERS, MA — A group of Danvers students is looking to celebrate the memory of slain teacher Colleen Ritzer's "Be Kind Legacy" with a mural named after her to be displayed in the high school library in 2023.
The students are looking to raise $30,000 for the mural through the "Be Kind Legacy" donation page, calendar raffles, sweatshirt and T-shirt sales.
"Colleen's journey from student to teacher was not just a career path," the fundraising page states, "it was a calling that allowed her to make a profound impact on the lives of her students. The difference she made in such a brief period as a teacher was evident in the outpouring of kind and heartfelt testimonials following her passing.

A movement by former friends and colleagues led to the dedication of the school library in her memory in 2023, with the annual Step Up for Colleen 5K in Andover drawing hundreds of participants each year and the district celebrating annual Week of Kindness in her memory each October.
"Her life was defined by perpetual happiness and a light that can never be extinguished," the "Be Kind Legacy" student campaign said. "Even in her absence, Colleen's spirit continues to shine brightly, forging tight bonds throughout the community as they mourn and celebrate her legacy."
As of Monday morning, the campaign was about 23 percent of the way toward its goal with $7,167 raised.
"Colleen Ritzer dedicated her life to two passions: family and teaching," the campaign said. "From a young age, Colleen discovered her passion for helping others at just three years old, inspired by her preschool teacher, who became her mentor and lifelong friend. This early influence ignited a flame within her that would guide her throughout her life. As she progressed through her education, Colleen's commitment to teaching deepened.
"While student teaching, she worked tirelessly with struggling high school math students, effortlessly explaining complex concepts and witnessing their remarkable improvement. This transformative experience confirmed her dedication to education, as she not only gained a sense of purpose but also emerged as a leader in her classroom, inspiring her students to reach their full potential."
