Danvers Woman First to Hand in Signatures For Democratic State Committee Ballot in the 2nd Essex District

Julie Curtis is the first woman to be elected as vice-president of the North Shore Labor Council.

Julie Curtis, vice president of the North Shore Labor Council and elected Library Trustee for the Town of Danvers, has handed in the required number of signatures to qualify for the ballot for Democratic State Committee in the 2nd Essex District.

“For the past three decades, I have been working to strengthen our community and promote progressive values in government,” Curtis said in a statement. “My lifetime of advocacy and activism in higher education, the labor movement, and supporting community-based organizations will give me the unique ability to deliver for residents of the 2nd Essex District on the Democratic State Committee.”

Curtis became the first candidate for Democratic State Committee in the 2nd Essex District to submit the required number of signatures to the Massachusetts Secretary of State’s office. The Democratic primary will take place on Tuesday, March 1, and includes the cities of Beverly, Peabody and Salem and the towns of Danvers and Topsfield.

Curtis is a lifelong Danvers resident. She is the first woman to be elected as vice-president of the North Shore Labor Council.

For 32 years, she has worked for Salem State University’s Athletics Department. Curtis has been actively involved in the community, serving as an elected member and Recording Secretary of the Board of Trustees for the Peabody Institute Library of Danvers and supporting numerous community-based charities and non-profit institutions. Curtis currently serves as Secretary of the Danvers Democratic Town Committee and is a past delegate to the Democratic State Convention. Curtis is a graduate of Salem State College.
