ICYMI: Local Man Arrested After State Police Receive Tip

After his September arrest, Robert Freeman was indicted Monday on charges of possessing child pornography.

IPSWICH, MA – When State Police searched an Ipswich home linked to Robert Freeman last September, they reportedly found images of child pornography, an unlocked firearm, loaded large capacity magazines, and ammunition.

On Monday, an Essex County Grand Jury indicted Freeman, 48, of Ipswich, on charges of possession of child pornography, possession of a weapon without a license, two counts of possession of a large capacity feeding device, and possession of ammunition without a license.

State Police secured a search warrant in August after receiving a tip involving an email address in Ipswich that allegedly uploaded child pornography. The Massachusetts Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force forwarded information to the Attorney General's Office regarding the email address, and State Police traced the email to Freeman.

Freeman was arrested on Sept. 28. A statement from the Attorney General's Office notes the the charges are allegations, and Freeman is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

"We allege that Mr. Freeman was exploiting and victimizing children by viewing graphic images of child sex abuse and illegally keeping large capacity weapons in his home," said Attorney General Maura Healey in a statement after Freeman's arrest. "These are serious and disturbing crimes and we will continue to focus our efforts on going after child predators and keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people."
