Maine Bookkeeper Accused Of Stealing From Danvers Business

Patricia Lindau, 60, Newburgh, ME, is accused of stealing $60,300 from two small businesses in Danvers and Haverhill.

DANVERS, MA — A Maine woman has been accused of stealing $60,300 from two small businesses located in Danvers and Haverhill after an Essex County District Attorney's office investigation.

Patricia Lindau, 60, Newburgh, ME, was charged with two counts Larceny and two counts embezzlement by tax preparer. The investigation is ongoing and Lindau could face additional charges, the DA's office said.

Lindau is scheduled to be arraigned on July 21 in Newburyport District Court. Larceny carries a maximum penalty of fibe years in state prison and embezzlement carries a maximum penalty of three years in state prison and a fine of up to $100,000.

Lindau owns and operates Northeast Abacus Inc., a payroll processing service. The criminal complaint accuses her of stealing the money by not paying state taxes for the two companies.
