The Modern Butcher Making Its Way To Danvers In Early 2023

The popular North Shore sandwich shop is relocating from its Newburyport location.

DANVERS, MA — Lisa Nichols is bringing her immensely popular North Shore sandwich shop to her hometown.

Nichols, who co-owns The Modern Butcher along with Warren Means, is relocating the "whole animal butcher shop" that opened in Newburyport in 2019 to Danvers early this spring.

"Our new shop gives us the ability to amp up production, offer a wider array of sandwiches, and specialty items," Nichols posted on the shop's Facebook page this weekend. "Danvers has a special place in my heart, being born and raised there with my entire family still residing in Danvers."

Nichols and Means appeared before the Danvers Select Board, where their license was approved for the former Dunkin' Donuts location on Maple Street, prior to Christmas. She said that the need for a bigger space and the expiration of their lease in Newburyport led to the move.

"We quickly outgrew our current location faster than we ever could have imagined," she said. "We've been searching hard behind the scenes for almost two years now to find a new location in Newburyport that would work for us and the business. But, given (that) our lease ended, our production demand, and the uncertainty of how long we'd be able to stay in our current location, we had to broaden our location search."

She said the owners will continue to look for a smaller, second location in Newburyport.

The Danvers location is nearly twice as big as the current spot with plans for a bar and liquor service to go with the giant sandwiches, as well as meat and cheese sales.

"We continue to be in awe of the support and praise we receive from our customers," she said. "There will never be enough words or thank yous that could express our gratitude daily.

"We can't wait to welcome you to our new location and continue on this wild journey."
