DANVERS, MA — Monty, the highly popular and personable goat known for "talking back" to his favorite humans, is being remembered at Endicott Park in Danvers as "something special" after he passed at 11 years old earlier this week.

Park officials posted on Endicott Park social media that Monty was "regal and reserved" in one moment and "goofy and mischievous" the next as he greeted fans with his huge horns and thoughtful eyes in person at the Danvers park and in paintings and photographs at the Topsfield Fair.

"This one is a hard one," officials said. "There was perhaps no animal at Endicott Park who sought out human attention more. He would put on a show for his favorite people: playing with his toys in his stall, 'talking back,' and in his younger years, running and jumping around the length of the paddock to greet his favorite people.

"We can't imagine this place without him watching protectively from his little porch, but we are so happy that we were able to know him and love him for almost seven years."

Officials said that while most people have hopeful visions of animals enjoying "greener pastures" when they pass on, Monty "would be happiest with a small yard, a nice little porch where he can take in the morning and afternoon sun" and that it's easy to "picture him there now ... watching over all of us."

"Rest in the sweetest of peace, buddy."
