DANVERS, MA — Salem Superior Court Judge Salim Tabit ordered a Revere man held without bail Tuesday on charges stemming from a bank robbery in Danvers last year. Robert Cornejo, 34, of Revere, had pleaded not guilty to the charges earlier this month. Cornejo was arrested in May and charged with unarmed robbery and being a common and notorious thief after lab results linking him to the robbery at the Peoples United Bank branch on Federal Street were released by the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab.

Cornejo's criminal record includes other bank robberies. In 2013, he was charged in connection with a robbery at the East Cambridge Savings Bank on Salem Street in Medford. In 2008 he was arrested for robbing a Sovereign Bank branch in North Andover while he was out on bail after being charged in a Wakefield bank robbery.

According to police, Cornejo was wearing a blue beanie, black wig and gray hooded sweatshirt when he demanded money without showing a weapon to bank tellers at the bank around 5 p.m. on May 1. He fled in an older model car. Police recovered the wig, which he discarded as he fled.
