North Shore Sobriety Checkpoint This Weekend: State Police

State Police said the checkpoint will take place at an Essex County location the weekend before Thanksgiving.

DANVERS, MA — North Shore residents and visitors traveling across Essex County this weekend should be aware of the potential to run into a State Police sobriety checkpoint.

State Police said the checkpoint will be set up at an undisclosed location on Friday night into Saturday morning.

State Police Col. Geoffrey Noble said the purpose of the checkpoint is to identify and remove drivers who are operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and to educate the public about driving-under-the-influence laws.

Noble said the checkpoints will run under varied hours, and the selection of vehicles to be pulled over will not be arbitrary. Police said notifications will be made to help reduce fear and anxiety related to the stops.
