Route 128 Southbound Overnight Shut Down Set For This Weekend

The state Department of Transportation said the highway will be closed for work in Danvers Saturday night.

DANVERS, MA — Route 128 southbound will have lane restrictions overnight Friday and will be completely shut down in Danvers overnight on Saturday as part of a $1 million project to replace a damaged fascia beam on the bridge carrying Endicott Street over Route 128.

The state Department of Transportation said construction will run on Route 128 southbound from exit 42 (Route 35) to exit 41 (Endicott Street) in Danvers.

The left lane will close from 8 p.m. on Friday until 6 a.m. on Saturday. Work will then continue Saturday night with all lanes closed at exit 41 from 11 a.m. until 6 a.m.

From Saturday night into Sunday morning, MassDOT said traffic will be detoured from Route 128 southbound to Endicott Street westbound. Traffic will then be routed west on Endicott Street, south on Sylvan Street and back on Route 128 southbound via Route 114 eastbound at exit 40.

Those traveling Endicott Street to Route 128 southbound will be sent south on Water Street to Pulaski Street and back on Route 114 southbound via Route 114 eastbound at exit 40.

Signs, traffic control devices and police details will be used to guide drivers through the work zone. Those traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
