Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Effect Saturday Night

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service for a large portion of the area north of Boston on Saturday night.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for much of the North Shore and areas north of Boston on Saturday evening by the National Weather Service.

Just before 6 p.m., the weather service said that radar showed a severe thunderstorm capable of producing damaging winds over 60 miles per hour near Burlington, headed east at 35 miles per hour.

The severe thunderstorm warning runs until 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

In the line of the storm are Beverly, Bedford, Burlington, Danvers, Lexington, Lynnfield, Marblehead, Melrose, Peabody, Reading, Wakefield, Wilmington, Woburn, Salem, Stoneham, Swampscott and Winchester.

The storms could produce damaging winds, large hail, and a ”short-lived tornado,” the weather service said. The storm could also flood roads and cause low visibility for drivers.

People in the line of the storm were told they should move inside to a sturdy structure.
