Soldier Wins Dream Ring From His Kid Brother [VIDEO]
The Hearts on Fire in Ice competition was held on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Carter's in Danvers.
Five couples went head-to-head with a blowdryer in hand, to compete for a $20,000 diamond engagement ring, frozen inside a block of ice.
The competitors who won, however, weren't in the average relationship.
Kaitlynn Hajjar of Hanover, competed for her dream ring with her future fiance Mike Kane's younger brother, Danny. Mike, a US Army solider, is currently stationed in Washington and wasn't able to make it home for the competition.

Mike and I met in algebra class in high school. We fell in love years after meeting each other through a series of letters written during his time in Army Basic training. Through those writings we made a connection I never thought possible. For the past year we’ve seen each other 40 days and I’ve learned to embrace the Army lifestyle. Though a military relationship is difficult, the love that Mike and I share makes it worth it. The sacrifices that we’ve made to maintain our relationship are great but then again true love does not exist without sacrifice.
The five finalists, chosen by the number of votes they received by the public, competed at Carter's, 150 Andover St., on Feb. 18, for the "Hearts on Fire" diamond engagement ring, valued at $20,000.
Hosted by Kiss 108's Billy Costa, the mild temperatures and sunny skies on Saturday made for the ice-melting in a little under an hour. While blowdrying away, Costa read each of the couple's love stories to the audience.
Costa said "I don't know what you're planning to do for your kid brother in return, but this is amazing."
Mike Kane, who was on the phone throughout the melting process, told the audience through the microphone after that it was "one of the most nervous 48 minutes of my life."
Still, Kane said he knew his kid brother could do it.
