Why Is Danvers Square's Flag At Half-Staff?

This morning while driving through town, we noticed the flag in Danvers Square was lowered to half-staff. Almost as soon as we noticed, an inquiry came in from a resident wondering who the town was honoring with the flag at half-staff.

So, we did some investigation, and found out for this week's .

According to the town's Veteran's Affair Manager Peter Mirandi, it is an internal protocol in Danvers to lower the flag to half-staff for any Danvers veteran who passes away.

On the day of his/her burial, the will lower than flag.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the flag was lowered for both:

• Francis Denehey, a US Navy Veteran
• Donald O’Leary, a WWII Navy Veteran

And again on Monday Jan. 30 for the funeral of:

• Albert Arsenault, a US Army Veteran

Mirandi said, however, when the governor requests flags to be lowered to half-staff across the state, the flag at the main municipal building (in our case, ) is lowered, not the one in the Square.
