Court Paperwork Error Led To Accused Rapist Being Freed From Jail

That man, who is facing a rape charge, has reportedly fled the country despite being ordered to turn in his passport.

DEDHAM, MA — An Uber driver accused of raping a passenger is reportedly out of the country.

Frederick Amfo, 30, was arrested April 8 on a charge of rape and posted $10,000 cash bail last Friday, despite not surrendering his passport has stipulated in his terms of bail. A non-bailable warrant for Amfo's has been granted by a Quincy District Court judge due to his failure to report to probation upon his release and surrender his passport, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney's office.

Officials are blaming a paperwork error for Amfo's premature release. A spokesperson for the Massachusetts Trial Court told the Patriot Ledger that Amfo’s court paperwork at the Norfolk County Correctional Center in Dedham indicated that he didn't have to surrender his passport. The jail then asked the courthouse for clarification and was told that Amfo had 24 hours to turn in his passport after posting bail.

An Uber spokesperson said that Amfo has been removed as a driver.
