Health Foundation Distributes Grant To Sherborn Fire Department

Note: The following is a release from the MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation.

The MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation announced on June 2 that the Town of Sherborn received nearly $10,000 to allow seniors to remain healthy in their homes.

The grant is part of a larger round of funding from the foundation. In total, 13 grants were awarded more than $613,000 to address unmet health needs in the MetroWest area.

The Sherborn Fire Department received $9,946 to provide at-home health and safety checks and to help seniors maintain independence in their homes. Nearly 20 percent of Sherborn’s senior population is age 80 or older of which 98 percent live in single-family homes.

The grant will enable Sherborn’s Emergency Medical Team (EMT) to provide health and safety checks for frail seniors who have been transported by ambulance due to a fall.

The goals of the program are to reduce falls among seniors, reduce ambulance calls for falls and increase home-safety awareness. Grant partners are the Sherborn Council on Aging and the Sherborn Police Department.
