The following was provided by Donna Bryant.
Leigh Carroll of Sherborn has been selected by US Rowing as the coxswain for the Women’s Eight (W8+) boat that will represent the United States in the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Amsterdam commencing July 21, 2011.
US Rowing is the national governing body for the sport of rowing in the United States. US Rowing selects, trains and manages the teams that represent the U.S. in international competition including the World Championships, Pan American Games, and Olympics.
The coxswain (or “cox”) sits in the stern and steers, coordinates the power and rhythm of the boat, and keeps the rowers informed about the position of the boat relative to other teams in the race.
