Boston’s West End: Moving Forward/Looking Back
Presented by Wentworth Institute of Technology in partnership with the West End Museum, this exhibit questions how to move an urban area into the future without destroying the roots of the community as it considers a wide range of topics central to Boston’s present-day and old West End. Maps detail the changing topography of the neighborhood over the past two hundred years. The pre-1800 economy is surveyed through a timeline and a model ropewalk created by Wentworth architecture student and Iraq War veteran Jim Cleveland. The show also provides an overview of the infamous urban renewal of the late 1950s and early 1960s that leveled the Old West End and explores how the West Ender Newsletter and the West End Museum foster an ongoing connection between residents old and new. Library reference materials will be available to attendees to learn more about the historic neighborhood.
Open: Monday - Thurs, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday, 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; Saturday, 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; Sunday, 11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. through Nov. 26; NOTE: library/exhibit closed 11/23 7&11/24) .
