Things to Know in Fenway-Kenmore Today, Oct. 16: Free Symposium at Joslin Diabetes Center

Here are five things going on in Fenway-Kenmore and nearby today.

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a cloudy morning that will clear up with temperatures that will reach 60 degrees. The evening will be clear and cool off to the mid-40s.

2. Free seminar for Diabetes patients: Joslin’s is hosting a free symposium geared towards families and children living with Type 1 diabetes tonight at 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Joslin Diabetes Center (1 Joslin Pl.) See here for more details. 

3. South End Writes: Head south to the South End Library for a lecture and power-point presentation about Boston's Fairest, the first women who were allowed to join the Boston Police Department. They were given a badge, but no uniform, weapon or 'vehicle' so had to hail a cab to get the perps to the station. Join BPD archivist Margaret Sullivan and her colleague, Sgt. Detective Dr. Kim L. Gaddy at the South End Library at 6:30 p.m. See here for more info.

4. Famer's market: Although it's a bit cooler outside, the Copley Square Farmer's Market is still going strong through November. Approximately 20 vendors will be on hand on opening day offering local and seasonal fruits and vegetables, baked goods, jams & jellies, cheese, meats, and much more.  Stop by today or Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. See here for more info. 

5. Paint the Town: Paint the Town is raising funds for Rebuilding Together Boston who work to preserve affordable housing in Boston at the Boston College Club from 6 to 9 p.m.
