Fight at House of Blues leads to Arrest for Alleged Assault

A Westford man was charged with assault and battery on a police officer.

A Westford man was arrested for allegedly pushing a police officer at the House of Blues early on Saturday morning.

Thomas Phelps of Westford, MA was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a police officer after an alleged fight with security guards at the House of Blues on Yawkey Way. 

Detail officers were notified that club security at the House of Blues needed assistance with two people on the mezzanine level of the club around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.

When the officers arrived, they reportedly observed two men struggling and wrestling with security near the stairs. Security guards told police the two men were trying to get a better view of the show by elbowing others, then refused to leave when asked.

When police confronted the two men, one one of the men stopped fighting, but police said Phelps grabbed the officer’s jacket and began to push away as they headed for the stairs, according to police.

The officer reportedly told the suspect to let go before kneeing the suspect in the thigh. The officer reportedly dropped the suspect with a second knee to the thigh. The suspect fell on his stomach and was handcuffed despite struggling with police.
