2nd Annual Framingham Middle School Spelling Bee Friday

The Homework Center will host the 2nd Annual Bee Friday, May 29, at the main Framingham Library.

The Christa McAuliffe Charter School will be looking to defend its title at the 2nd Annual Framingham Middle School Spelling Bee on Friday night, May 29.

The Homework Center will host the 2nd Annual Bee at the main Framingham Library at 7.

Twenty teams and 60 middle school students from four Framingham public schools competed in the first-ever event in 2013.

This year, each of the four middle schools may submit up to 3 teams of 3 spellers each. Teams can be co-ed and mixed grade. Team names and costumes are optional.

Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.

The Homework Center, run by Director Judy Gatlin, is funded by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.Gatlin is assisted by a Youth Advisory Board made up of middle school and high school teens, who help to plan and faclitate events, that raise awareness of both the Center and academics in Framingham,including the Spelling Bee.

The Homework Center operates Mondays through Thursdays from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at the main Framingham Library on Lexington Street. The Center also sends teams of tutors to each the three public middle schools and to Framingham High one afternoon a week.
