1. Multifamily home fire in Framingham MA displaces several residents (metrowestdailynews.com) — An early-morning fire at a multifamily home on Waverly Street in Framingham displaced several adults and children but caused no reported injuries, according to Fire Chief Michael Dutcher. Crews quickly knocked down the third-floor bedroom blaze, limiting damage to the 1917 three-family house, and the displaced residents are now receiving support. Officials say the accidental fire appears electrical in nature.
   

2. Akira Ransomware Attack Exposes Data Of 7,600 At MetroWest Community FCU (cutoday.info) — A major data breach at Framingham-based MetroWest Community Federal Credit Union exposed sensitive information for more than 7,600 people in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including Social Security and account numbers. The Akira ransomware group claims responsibility, and affected members are being offered two years of free credit monitoring while federal and state authorities investigate.
   

3. 'It's more than just hockey': BVT boys' hockey hosts holiday toy drive, cancer fundraiser tournament (thegardnernews.com) — A longtime Framingham-connected coach is using Blackstone Valley Tech’s boys’ hockey program to support local kids and cancer patients, including a toy drive benefiting Framingham Public Schools students. The team’s holiday tournament in Hopedale raised nearly $10,000 for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation while giving players a strong sense of community and family.
   

4. MA nursing vacancies have declined. Why some say more work is needed (metrowestdailynews.com) — Framingham nurses are part of a broader statewide push to improve hospital staffing and working conditions, even as Massachusetts reports fewer nursing vacancies than in recent post-pandemic years. Local nurses and union leaders say understaffing, burnout, and safety concerns still drive many from bedside care, and they’re pressing hospitals and lawmakers for better nurse-to-patient ratios, stronger protections, and healthier work environments.
