5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: April 1

Girl Scouts hosting camp fair and giving away free week of camp and Jack's Abby Brewing has 3 new porters today.

​​​1. Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts is hosting a Girl Scout camp fair in Framingham, tonight, to promote its day and resident summer camps, including Camp Cedar Hill in Waltham.

The non-profit organization recently announced it closed Camp Winnetaska in Ashland and Camp Virginia in Bolton.

In addition to providing an “on the spot” confirmation of financial aid, the non-profit organization will be giving away a free week of summer camp at the fair. Individuals must attend the event to enter, but don’t need to be present to win. (Free week is for one new week of day camp for 2015 season valued at $305. Any amount over is responsibility of the family. One entry per camper.) The camp fair is tonight at Plymouth Church in the Bridge room from 5 to 7.

2. The Town of Framingham has a vision for the redevelopment of Downtown Framingham, and the vision includes transit-oriented development, which includes a mixture of housing, office, retail and/or other amenities integrated into a walk-able neighborhood close to public transportation. Transit-oriented development creates better access to jobs, housing and opportunity for people of all ages and incomes.

The Town of Framingham is holding its final two workshops for the public today and tomorrow.

  • April 1 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Framingham Public Library (49 Lexington Street)
  • April 2 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Blumer Room, Memorial Building (150 Concord Street)


3. The Framingham Teachers Association will hold a 2-hour forum with the 3 candidates for Framingham School Committee at Walsh Middle School today, April 1 at 4 p.m. The public may attend.

There are two 3-year terms on the 7-member elected Framingham School Committee this year on the town’s ballot. Names on the ballot include incumbent School Committee Chair Beverly Hugo as well as challengers Jim Kelly and Scott Wadland. School Committee member Andy Limeri choose not to run for re-election. Election day is April 7.

Last night, the Framingham TWPTO held its forum with the Selectmen and School Committee candidates. About 60 people were in the audience. The debate was taped by Access Framingham and will be re-broadcast RCN channel 3, Comcast channel 9 and Verizon on channel 43 on the following days:

  • Thursday, April 2 at 8 p.m.
  • Friday, April 3 at 1 and 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 4 at 1 and 7;30 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 5 at 1 and 7 p.m.
  • Monday, April 6 at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Election day, April 7 at 9 a.m.

4. Jack’s Abby Brewing in Framingham will release three porters today - Barrel-Aged, Vanilla Barrel-Aged, and Coffee Barrel-Aged Framinghammers.



5. Framingham High School announced its 2016 yearbook editors yesterday. Rena Stoloff was named Editor-In-Chief and AB Roy was named photography editor for the 2016 yearbook. Click here for the rest of the editors named.
