5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: April 24

Fountain Street Open Studios, book signings, Shakespeare performance at Framingham State, and Dance Dance Revolution Tournament.

1. Tonight kicks off one of my favorite events in Framingham -- it is the start of the 22nd Annual Fountain Street Open Studios.

See works of art in a variety of media and styles: painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, hand-crafted jewelry, textile and fabric art, collage, installation, paper cuts, assemblage, video art, functional glass art, pottery, drawings and more, by emerging to internationally recognized artists.

Artists will open their studios tonight from 5:30 to 9 and again Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

2. Town Historian Fred Wallace, will be signing copies of his new book Pushing for Cushing in War and Peace at Damianos Photography & Publishing inside the Bancroft Building as part of the 22nd Annual Fountain Street Open Studios tonight from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Also meet cookbook author Thomas S. Hepner at Damianos Publishing tonight. He will be signing copies of his new cookbook Fresh From the Source.

3. Framingham State University’s Communication Arts Department will stage Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream tonight and tomorrow at 7:30 at the Dwight Performing Art Center. Tickets are $10 and available at www.showtix4u.com.

4. Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian is now accepting applications for his one-week Youth Public Safety Academy this summer. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 9-10-11 only. Click here for more details.

5. The main Framingham Library is hosting a Dance Dance Revolution Tournament tonight, as part of its Board Games Night.

Organized by members of the Framingham Library Youth Advisors, the 6 to 8:30 p.m., after-hours event is for families, children, and teens.
