5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: February 24

Both Framingham School Committee and Framingham Selectmen will meet tonight at 7. McAuliffe Charter will hold an open house tonight.

1. The Christa McAuliffe Charter School will hold an open house tonight at its new Newbury Street campus from 6:30 to 8.

The regional public charter middle school, for grades 6-8, will hold its annual admission lottery on Wednesday, March 4.

The school plans to admit 140 sixth graders via its lottery, although some of those spots will go to siblings of current students before the lottery begins.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 28 at 11:59 p.m. EST. For additional information on the lottery process, click here.


2. The Framingham School Committee is scheduled to meet tonight at 7 in the King Building.

The 7-member elected School Committee was scheduled to vote on the 2015-16 school calendar, but that agenda item has been delayed, said School Committee Chair Beverly Hugo last night.

On the agenda for tonight’s meeting however is discussion on the school improvement plans for Brophy Elementary, Dunning Elementary and McCarthy Elementary schools. Also on the agenda is a discussion FY16 budget and advocacy efforst by School Committee Chair Hugo on Capitol Hill.

4. Framingham Selectmen are scheduled to meet tonight at 7 in the Memorial Building.

On the agenda is an update on open meeting law complaints with Town Counsel Chris Petrini, a joint meeting with the Framingham Planning Board and several public hearings, including the continuation of one on the new Dunkin Donuts’ location on Franklin Street.

5. The Framingham State University Women’s basketball team will host Fitchburg State University tonight in a conference playoff game. The Rams are 4th seed in the 2014-15 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament. The public is invited to the game. Tip-off is at 7.


Bonus: Tomorrow night, Feb. 25, is a meeting of the Framingham TWPTO at McCarthy Elementary. The guest speaker for the 7 p.m. meeting is Framingham Schools Director of Curriculum Grace Wai. She will make a presentation on PARCC, the new state testing Framingham will use next month, and hold a Q&A for parents.
